Week 9

Drug Discovery

For our chemistry seminar on Thursday, October 27, Dr. Bradley Tait spoke about “The Proteostasis Network and Drug Discovery.” Dr. Tait is the VP of Chemistry at PTI or Proteostasis Therapeutics.

Proteostasis Network

On Oct 27, 2011 we had the privilage of hearing Brad Tait bring us a presentation about the details of what goes into a drug start-up company and how his company is changing the world through proteostasis drug therapeutics.

"The Science & Business of a Drug Start-Up Company" by Bradley D. Tait

Last Thursday, October 27th, we heard from Dr. Bradley D. Tait, who is the Vice President of Chemistry at Proteostasis Therapeutics, Inc (PTI) in Cambridge, MA. Dr. Tait told us about how the development of new drugs takes place and about the drugs that PTI is developing in order to correct Cystic Fibrosis. In addition, he mentioned that PTI is using microspheres instead of microarrays for DNA detection.

I enjoyed Dr. Tait's presentation even though it was difficult to follow because it had a high content of Biochemistry which is a class I have not taken yet.

The Proteostasis Network and Drug Discovery

The guest speaker of this week was Dr. Bradley D. Tait. He is the vice president of chemistry, Proteostasis Therapeutics, Inc, Cambridge, MA. Dr. Bradley Tait is also a distinguished 1981 alumni of Andrews University Department of Chemistry & Biochemistry. The topic was “The Proteostasis Network and Drug Discovery”.

Science and Business of a Drug Start-up

Dr. Bradley D Tait presented his seminar, “Science and Business of a Drug Start-up” on Thursday, October27, 2011.  He joined Proteostasis, Inc. in November 2008.   Proteostasis is a start-up pharmaceutical company specializing in protein misfolding diseases such as Cystic Fibrosis, Huntington’s, and Alzheimer’s.  Currently, he is a distinguished 1981 alumni of Andrew University Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry.

Science and business of a drug startup company

Dr. Bradley Tait is an alumnus of Andrews University Department of Biochemistry and Chemistry. He received a Ph.D. in organic chemistry. Currently, he is working as a vice president in Proteostasis Therapeutic Inc. He talked about “Science and business of a drug startup company”.

The Proteostasis Network and Drug Discovery

October 27, 2011

I was surprised that today's seminar presentation was related to biochemistry. It's about time! And to top it off, the guest speaker was none other than Dr. Brad Tait, an alumni of Andrews University. Dr. Tait works at Proteostasis Therapeutics, Inc., and took the time to introduce us to a new approach to drug discovery . . .

Science of drug company

Dr. Brad Taits from Proteostatsis Therapeutics, Inc. came to give a talk about how drug companies work. The comapany he works at begun in 2008 and the purpose of this comapny is to find a cure to genetic disorders such as Tay-Sachs disease.

Creative Drug Discovery

On Thursday, October 27, Dr. Bradley Tait spoke on “The Proteostasis Network and Drug Discovery”.  Dr. Tait is the VP of Chemistry at Proteostasis Therapeutics, Inc. PTI was established in 2008 and has a novel method for drug development.
